How to Become a Selar Affiliate in Nigeria (2026): Eight Steps
The exact steps to start earning Selar commissions in naira — network fee vs free invite, choosing products, disclosure rules and what you get paid.
The short version
- Two ways in: **pay about ₦3,000 a year** for the Affiliate Network, or get **added free** by a seller whose product you already know.
- Commissions are **10–50% in practice**, with the network requiring ~30% for most products and 20% for products ₦50,000 and above.
- Payouts land in a **naira bank account in about 24–48 hours** — no dollar card, no partner-held Stripe account, no FX rail to fight.
Selar is the easiest affiliate money in Nigeria to actually collect, and it is usually the last platform Nigerian affiliate guides explain properly. Here is the whole process, without the hype.
Step 1 — Understand which of the two doors you are using
There are two separate relationships on Selar, and confusing them wastes money:
| Route | What it is | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Affiliate Network | You browse a marketplace of products and apply to promote them | ~₦3,000 a year |
| Direct invite | A seller adds you to their product as an affiliate | Free |
If you already know a creator whose product you have used, ask them to add you directly. The network fee buys discovery, not permission.
Step 2 — Create the account and set your payout details first
Do this before anything else. A commission you cannot withdraw because your bank details were never verified is the most avoidable disappointment in affiliate marketing.
- Use a Nigerian bank account in your own name.
- Verify the account inside Selar’s payout settings.
- Confirm the name matches your Selar profile — mismatches are the usual cause of a held payout.
Step 3 — Pick one product, not ten
The failure mode is promoting five products badly. Start with one, and choose it on this test:
- Have you used it? Bought it, read it, applied it. If not, your audience finds out at the refund wave.
- Does it solve a problem your content already discusses? A YouTube course promoted to people reading about product photography converts at zero.
- What is the commission against the price? A 50% commission on a ₦3,000 ebook is less money per sale than 30% on a ₦20,000 course.
- What is the refund rate? Ask the seller. Evasiveness is an answer.
The maths that matters is clicks × conversion × commission, not the headline percentage. The Selar decision sheet runs three worked examples.
Step 4 — Generate the link correctly
Inside the product page, create your affiliate link and check three things:
- The link resolves to the product, not to the seller’s whole store.
- The attribution cookie is six months on Selar products — unusually generous, and the reason content that ranks slowly still pays.
- You have a way to shorten and track it, because raw affiliate URLs in a WhatsApp status look like spam and die on line breaks.
Keep a simple sheet: date, channel, link, clicks, sales, commission. Nothing more sophisticated is needed for the first 100 clicks.
Step 5 — Learn the conversion pattern before you scale
Rough working expectations for digital products in Nigeria:
| Traffic type | Realistic conversion |
|---|---|
| Cold social traffic (X, Instagram, TikTok) | 0.1–0.5% |
| Search traffic landing on a comparison page | 0.5–2% |
| Email list you built yourself | 1–4% |
| A buyer of your own ₦5,000 product | 3–8% |
That is why building a list beats chasing reach. Ten thousand cold views and forty warm subscribers are not the same asset, and the forty are worth more.
Step 6 — Put the disclosure where it will be seen
Three lines, near the top:
- You may earn a commission if someone buys through your link.
- Whether you have used the product yourself.
- Who the product is not for.
The last one is counter-intuitive and it is the one that earns trust. Telling a reader “this is not for you if you want passive income” converts better and refunds less than a page of praise.
Step 7 — Track the payout like a business
- Record every sale with date, product, amount, commission.
- Reconcile against Selar’s dashboard weekly, not monthly — attribution disputes are easier to fix while the click data is fresh.
- Keep the money separate. A dedicated account for affiliate income makes tax and refunds dramatically simpler, even before you register a business.
- Set aside for tax. Affiliate commission is income. Nigerian personal income tax applies, and self-employed earners are expected to file.
Step 8 — Graduate from promoting to owning
Affiliate income is rented. The seller can change commission, price or terms, and your entire income line moves without you doing anything.
Use it for what it is: income while you build the audience and writing habit that a product of your own needs. The natural ladder is affiliate income → your own ₦5,000 offer → recurring membership. That is the funnel this site runs on, and the reason the AI Course Promotion course exists — it is the only one of our courses whose affiliate economics you can collect entirely in naira.
The three mistakes that cost the most
- Promoting a product you have not used. Refund waves come back to the affiliate, not just the seller — your audience stops trusting the next link too.
- Counting commissions you cannot withdraw. Selar pays in naira, which is why it is first on this list. Programs paid only through a partner-held Stripe account are worth zero to a Nigerian resident, however good the percentage looks.
- Selling the percentage instead of the outcome. Nobody buys “40% commission”. They buy “I can quote ₦35,000 for a video next week”. The commission is your problem, not theirs.

Questions we get asked
Do I need a business registered with CAC to be a Selar affiliate?
Not to start promoting. Registering a business becomes relevant when you want a business bank account, are invoicing larger amounts, or want clean separation for tax. Many affiliates start as individuals.
How much can I actually earn?
It depends on traffic quality, not on commission percentage. At a realistic 0.6% conversion on warm traffic, a ₦20,000 course at 40% pays roughly ₦48,000 per 1,000 clicks. Cold traffic converts far worse.
What is the minimum payout?
Selar settles to Nigerian bank accounts in naira, typically within a day or two of the sale clearing. Check your dashboard for the current threshold before you plan around a specific date.
Can I promote my own product and earn commission?
No. Self-referral is not a commission, it is your own sale with extra steps. What you can do is list your own product on the network at 50–60% and recruit other affiliates to sell it for you.
Do I have to disclose that I am an affiliate?
Yes. Nigerian advertising rules and basic consumer-protection expectations both require identifiable marketing. Put the disclosure above the first link, not buried in the footer.
